With a strong desire to enrich seniors’ and other individual’s lives by helping them continue living independently in their own homes, David Hellyer and Terri Breindel opened the State College, Pennsylvania, Comfort Keepers office on April 1, 2004. From this location they serve individuals and their families with nonmedical in-home care services throughout Centre County. In June of 2006, David and Terri opened a satellite office in nearby Tyrone, to specifically serve the residents of Blair County. They opened the Clearfield, Pennsylvania Comfort Keepers franchise on January 1, 2007. They and their staff provide services that enable senior citizens to continue living independently at home throughout Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Indiana and parts of Jefferson County. They also serve other adults who need help at home—for instance, a new mom returning from the hospital with her baby or those recovering from illness, injury or surgery.
The locally owned and operated Comfort Keepers office helps improve the lives of seniors and other adults who just need a little extra help to live safely and independently at home. It also provides their families the peace-of-mind knowing their loved ones are living happily at home. Our caregivers—our Comfort Keepers®—deliver compassionate, professional in-home care and senior care that enables our clients to maintain as high a level of independence and quality of life as possible in the place they are most comfortable—their own home.
We provide a full range of senior care and in-home services—companionship, personal care and home safety and technology—that can be tailored to meet the evolving needs of seniors and other adults as they age at home. We’ll work in tandem with outside care organizations to provide a comprehensive care solution, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health agencies, and hospice.
To Be a Comfort Keeper
When hiring our Comfort Keepers, we look for people who have a heart for helping others. Successful candidates want to make a positive difference in people’s lives and put others before themselves. Candidates must prove to us that they take a sincere interest in getting to know what’s important to their clients and helping them get the most out of life.
We conduct extensive background checks, including local and national criminal checks, before hiring candidates. And before they begin caring for clients, our Comfort Keepers complete extensive training in everything they need to know to provide high quality senior home care. They also complete ongoing training to keep their skills up-to-date. For our clients' and their families' peace-of-mind, we supervise, bond and insure our Comfort Keepers. In addition, each is covered by Workers’ Compensation. Comfort Keepers services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and someone is always available to answer your calls. Comfort Keepers services may be arranged anywhere from a few hours a week, to provide family caregivers a respite, to full-time and any amount of service in between—whatever is needed. We offer free in-home assessments to determine your and your loved one’s needs, and we work with you to develop a home care plan. Each person a Comfort Keeper cares for is unique, and so is every care plan.
Our Client Care Coordinators routinely obtain feedback from our Comfort Keepers about their clients’ care, and we keep families apprised of any identified changes or concerns we may have about their loved one. This way we work with families to appropriately adjust in-home care plans as clients’ needs change—always striving to provide the most appropriate level of service to promote their quality of life and independence.
